Our Stylists

Education, experience and skill

Continuing education class at MOSS

Education, experience, professionalism and skill are the four areas by which each stylist’s level is graded.

To perfect each stylist’s skills, MOSS hosts monthly continuing education courses.  In these courses, we learn new techniques, how to hone our skills, are introduced to new products and how best to use them. These courses promote unity and trust among us which in turn produces great workplace morale and unmatched professionalism.

Since none of our stylists are entry-level, stylist levels begin at Level 2, Artist.

Stylist levels in progressive order

  • Level 2, Artist
  • Level 3, Designer

When I designed MOSS, I gave little thought into being a salon owner and more thought in to creating a space I would want to come to everyday. It's a place that brings light and nature inside, a place that I'm not in a hurry to leave because it makes me feel good. It's a place where I can breathe clean air and use products that are not harmful to my body. This concept, I believe, is what makes our team and our guests want to be here.

Even though I am the owner, I don't feel that I'm the "best" stylist at our salon. Each of us has our areas of strengths, and that's why I'm confident in each member of my team.

When it comes to sculpting hair, I am very tactile, and I take my time to see how your hair wants to move naturally. My goal is balance your personal features, not to always precision cut.

I am a very skilled colorist and can deliver anything from a soft, natural youthful look to a bold, vibrant and trendy look... but I won't compromise the integrity and health of your hair. I believe healthy hair is beautiful hair.

I enjoy working with patient and reasonable guests willing to let me help them reach their goals. I'm not afraid to make suggestions, but ultimately I will listen to you and respect what you want.

I am always learning, and I take hair related classes every month, but my goal for 2018 is to hone my skills as a makeup artist. I plan to bring a new makeup line to MOSS and really show my guests how to complete their look.

People that know me know that I love change. I hope to help people embrace the fun they can have by letting me change up their look from time to time, even if it's only when they are in my chair.

Level 5, Virtuoso

When I was 9 years old, I became aware of my love of art and creativity.

In 1980, I earned my cosmetology license and began cutting, styling, and coloring hair. Over the years, mentors have challenged my skills and helped me fine tune them.

Between 1989 and 2004, I regularly participated in hair competitions held in Connecticut, USA. I won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the Cutting, Formal, and Total Look competitions, respectively.

Each client’s face has a unique structure, and each client has a unique hair texture. Working with clients to achieve the look they want is both challenging and fun and a way to express my creativity.

I love cutting and contouring hair to the shape of a client’s head and face and adding color to enhance the natural tone of the skin, eyes, and hair. More importantly, I love seeing the smile on the faces of my clients because they truly love how they look.

Level 4, Master

My interest in hair was inspired by my uncle, who owned a very successful salon in New York. He began mentoring me when I was young. I learned all about hair coloring and styling, and how extensive training was a requirement to be successful. After three years with him, I became licensed.

I have been doing hair for the last 25 years, and I still love how it allows me to express myself creatively. I also love to make people look and feel beautiful.

For as long as I can remember, I've loved being creative — drawing, painting, crafting. Being a hair stylist is simply an extension of my love of creativity.

When my husband retired from the military, I finally had the opportunity for formal education and enter the stylist industry. In addition, I augment my education each year by attending Orlando's Premier hair show to stay on top of the latest trends and techniques.

Level 3, Designer

I was born and raised in Massachusetts, USA. When I moved to Florida in 2006, I was a paralegal, but I didn’t really enjoy what I was doing. I wanted to be more creative.

I attended the Aveda Institute for contemporary and traditional cutting and coloring for men and women, and I graduated 1st in my class. I have no regrets because now I love what I do!

I specialize in natural looking highlights (Balayage) and color correction, which is challenging and fun. Plus, I love seeing the beautiful results and smiles on the faces of my clients.

Level 2, Artist

Before I became a stylist and cosmetologist, I worked 8 years in customer service. I believe this gave me an excellent foundation for pleasing clients, but I needed a way to express my creativity. So, I would style the hair of friends and family members for wedding and proms, and I became very good at it. The fun and satisfaction I had with hair motivated me to get some formal education and make a career change.

I'm willing to try anything for a client... whether it's a conservative or exotic change.
